Position Purpose

The Cook is responsible for providing and preparing nutritious meals to residents of Sayre Christian Village.  This position must follow nutritional guidelines and menus on a daily basis and abide by all health regulations and Policies.

 

Required Education and Qualifications

  • 2 plus years of experience cooking in a commercial kitchen.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior Skilled Nursing facility experience preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certification required

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing resident service in the area of meals, floor stock, nourishment and food preferences.
  • Handles food according to all government guidelines and is aware of minimum standards for a quality food service operation.
  • Labeling and stocking all ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
  • Washing, chopping and sorting ingredients like fruits, vegetables and meats.
  • Measuring quantities of seasonings and other cooking ingredients.
  • Often switches between multiple jobs to assist the kitchen staff as needed.
  • Assists by cleaning off kitchen surfaces, mopping floors and placing clean utensils and dishes back in the appropriate places.
  • Adheres to standard recipes and menus set forth by Sayre Christian Village.
  • Adheres and maintains Sayre Christian Village and the Food and Nutrition policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with employees and residents in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations and with HIPAA Security Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for providing a variety of food based on nutritional needs for residents.
  • Responsible for maintaining all necessary food items.
  • Record temperatures on the daily temperatures log.
  • Ability to follow directions and daily menus.
  • Assist in meal service as needed.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accident protocol.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with residents and Nursing Home employees as needed.
  • Must obtain a thorough knowledge of cafeterias, kitchens, kitchen supplies, freezers, and residents’ rooms and needs.
